The Olympiad Diary

The Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO) has run in Sirius for the second time. Held on May 15–22, the intellectual competition has brought together over 100 participants from 17 countries.

Today, the participants of the Open International Biology Olympiad dived into an extensive excursion program. The students went up on the gondola lift to the Rosa Khutor Ski Resort, where they enjoyed the magnificent panorama of the Caucasus Mountains.

This year the practical round of the Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO) stands out for its balanced approach: the organizers made an effort to equally represent all key areas of the science – from traditional biology of plants and animals to bioinformatics and genetics.

Today, the participants of OIBO-2026 visited a world-famous sports facility that was built for the 2014 Olympic Games.  The luge and bobsleigh track is the only one in Russia for international-level competitions and the only one in the world with three counter‑slopes, which reduce athletes’ speed and make this track one of the safest in the world. 

The participants of our Olympiad tackled real-life scientific problems, from genetic calculations to cutting-edge genome assembly.

The project round is the main event of the sixth day of the Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO). The teams had to solve one of five biological problems.

School students from 17 countries have planted oleander saplings in the Sirius Federal Territory. In doing so, the participants of the Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO) continued the wonderful tradition of international olympiads.

The results of the second Open International Biology Olympiad have been announced in Sirius. Eleven students from Russia became the winners of the second Open International Biology Olympiad in Sirius.
