Olympiad Diaries
Day 2

Today, the participants of the Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO) went on an excursion around the Sirius federal territory, visiting the Southern Cultures Arboretum. This garden is home to over 600 plant species from around the world, making it a special place for any biologist or researcher.
In the afternoon, the students had a safety briefing and were shown the equipment for the practical round, which will take place in the laboratory and consist of two stages.
In the evening, the teams shared the cultural traditions of their countries through presentations and creative performances. Afterward, the participants continued talking to each other, exchanging interesting facts and stories about their paths in biology.
One participant, Musharaf Zoirova from Tajikistan, initially had a strong interest in mathematics but later decided to explore biology.

"I've been studying biology for about five years now. I’m particularly fascinated by genetics and biochemistry — these are incredibly complex fields, and that’s exactly why I love them. They challenge me to think, improve, and push my limits, proving to myself that I can handle difficult tasks. I’ve competed in regional and national Olympiads, as well as international online competitions, but this is my first time participating in an in-person Olympiad here in Sirius," said Musharaf.
Tomorrow, the OIBO participants will tackle the practical round, conducting experiments in Sirius laboratories using modern equipment. The round consists of two stages, each lasting two hours.
