Olympiad Diary
Day 2

Today, the participants of the Open International Biology Olympiad dived into an extensive excursion program. The students went up on the gondola lift to the Rosa Khutor Ski Resort, where they enjoyed the magnificent panorama of the Caucasus Mountains. They also visited the Olympic Village — it was right there that the athletes lived during the 2014 Winter Olympics. Moreover, they stopped by the ‘My Russia' Interactive Ethnopark, where they saw the whole Russia in miniature: from Siberia with its wooden huts and exotic Buryatia with a Buddhist temple, to the imperial architecture of St. Petersburg and the authentic towers of the Caucasus.
In the afternoon, the Olympiad participants familiarized themselves with the equipment for the practical round. It should take place in the laboratory complex of the Sirius University of Science and Technology — the largest scientific center in Russia in the field of life sciences.

In the evening, the students from 17 countries presented their delegations at an evening event. They told about the traditions and culture of their countries. Such a format allowed them to learn more about the lives their like-minded peers lead and things they are interested in.
"It is a great responsibility to represent South Ossetia at such an event. We are the face of the republic, and so we cannot fail, we have to present ourselves with dignity and grace. I think we managed that at the Artistic Presentation of Delegations. We chose the national dance to better present our culture and traditions. Today, all of the participants revealed themselves in a new way: everyone showed their individuality and at the same time presented a piece of their country’s culture in an extremely interesting manner," said Kamilla Guchmazova from South Ossetia.

"Today we presented our traditional Thingyan dance. This widespread folk dance is performed during the eponymous New Year’s Water Festival in Myanmar. I am very proud that the participants from different countries learned about our culture. I want to become a doctor to be able to treat people, so OIBO is an important event in my life," mentioned Yoon Shwe Yee Chit from Myanmar.

Tomorrow the participants of the Open International Biology Olympiad (OIBO) are going to tackle the tasks of the first practical round.
